Egyptian Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh el-Hefny met with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar during a series of high-level diplomatic meetings with global industry leaders.
The discussion focused on establishing a sustainable growth roadmap for the African civil aviation sector to keep pace with rapid changes in the global air transport industry.
Joined by Mohamed Rahma, Head of the Air Transport Sector at ICAO and Regional Director for the Middle East, and Reem Orabi, Egypt’s Alternate Representative to ICAO, the leaders highlighted the importance of advancing key ICAO initiatives.

The dialogue centred on expanding capacity-building programmes and strengthening expertise-sharing networks across member states to raise operational standards regionwide.
Looking ahead, both sides reviewed preparations for major global events, including the 7th World Air Transport Conference (ATConf/7) and ICAO’s Extraordinary General Assembly, both scheduled for November 2026 in Montreal, Canada.
