Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Abbas Helmy discussed with Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad the latest developments regarding co-operation and coordination between the two ministries regarding Egypt’s hosting of the COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh next November.

Minister Abbas confirmed that the preparations for the climate summit come at the forefront of the interests of the Ministry of Civil Aviation in light of the political leadership’s directives to bring this global event out, in an honourable manner that befits the leading position that Egypt enjoys regionally and internationally and in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development.

The minister referred to the importance of the permanent coordination meetings between the two ministries, praising the efforts made by the joint work teams from both sides.

He also highlighted the important role of the committee that was formed by the Ministry of Civil Aviation regarding the follow-up of the organisation and preparations of Egyptian airports, which contributes to serving the participants in the conference, facilitating their procedures and overcoming all difficulties.

The minister also confirmed the completion of all development work on schedule at Cairo and Sharm El-Sheikh airports.

For her part, Minister Fouad indicated that video clips have been completed that provide a brief overview of the conference for visitors, which will be displayed on screens at airport halls and others that will be shown on board aircraft.

A number of billboards for the conference will also be prepared, as well as videos on climate change topics to be displayed on screens at Egyptian airports.

The Minister of Environment and the supporting work team reviewed all the measures that have been taken, in terms of organisation and logistical services to be provided, and work to provide all facilities for the participating delegations, in coordination with all the authorities concerned at the airports, where services were provided to people with special capabilities at airports, as well as the provision of 250 volunteers.

Through the Ministry of Social Solidarity to help at the airports, special counters have been allocated in the conference hall for participants to quickly and easily complete the procedures.

The topics to be discussed during the conference activities and their relationship to climate change were also discussed, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s plan for sustainable development was reviewed.
