Cairo Airport intensifies operations for Ramadan Umrah season 10 - Egyptian Gazette

By Mohamed Attia

Following the directives of Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh el-Hefny, the Cairo Airport Company has declared a state of emergency to manage the peak travel period for Ramadan Umrah.

To ensure a seamless experience for pilgrims, the airport has significantly intensified coordination efforts and enhanced service facilities across all terminals.

These preparations include the renovation of dedicated Ihram dressing areas for those traveling directly to Mecca, alongside a strategic increase in terminal coordinators and public relations staff.

This reinforced team is specifically tasked with assisting the elderly and those with health concerns, ensuring their travel and arrival procedures are handled with the utmost care.

Operational efficiency has been further bolstered through improvements to terminal infrastructure and communication.

The number of directional signs in departure halls has been increased to guide travelers effectively, while the public address systems have been optimised to provide timely information and essential service updates.

Currently, Umrah flight operations are distributed across the Seasonal Terminal for EgyptAir, Terminal 2 for Saudi Arabian Airlines, and Terminal 1 for private carriers, ensuring that traffic is managed efficiently across the airport’s various hubs.

Chairman of the Cairo Airport Company Magdy Ishaq Azer confirmed that a comprehensive coordination plan is in place with all airport entities to provide high-quality services, particularly for people with special needs.

To support this, a 24-hour operations room has been established to monitor the flow of pilgrims and provide immediate solutions to any logistical challenges. Complementing these efforts, EgyptAir has mobilised specialised teams at both Egyptian and Saudi airports to facilitate rapid check-in and arrival processes, underscoring their commitment to passenger comfort and service excellence throughout the holy month.
