September 3, 1956 — The Swedish merchant training ship Flying Clipper was seized by a Russian motor torpedo boat in the Baltic Sea on August 29. The photograph was taken in connection with the Torbay–Lisbon race, held in July, in which the ship was one of the competing vessels. The reason for the seizure of the ship and its crew of 36 is not yet clear, but it may be connected with territorial waters claims.
