LONDON, Oct. 29, 1973 — President Nixon’s attempt to make 1973 the “Year of Europe” is dead, partly because of strains caused by the Mideast war, diplomatic sources said.
European governments now believe Nixon is unlikely to visit Europe to revitalise the alliance until well into 1974, citing divisions over US support for Israel, fears of an Arab oil cut-off and a lack of consultation on US-Soviet talks.
