LONDON, Sept. 23, 1956 — Despite England’s lack of sunshine, the country boasts a remarkable variety of original sundials, from simple “scratch dials” on church walls to elaborate multi-faced instruments.
Among the finest is a sundial painted on a cottage wall at Seaton Ross, Yorkshire, believed to be among the largest in Britain. Rarer still are multi-faced dials, such as one at Walton Hall, Wakefield, fashioned into a globe giving the hour in twenty cities worldwide.
