September 6, 1956 – This is the Grand Coulee Dam, heart of the Columbia River basin project, which has become the key to the industrial and agricultural development of the Northwestern United States. The dam is 4,200 feet long and 550 feet high. It contains a battery of 18 generators, capable of a continued output of at least 2,000,000 kilowatts.
