CAPE CANAVERAL, Oct. 11 — Astronaut Kathy Sullivan became America’s first woman spacewalker today, floating outside Shuttle Challenger with colleague David Leestma to test satellite-refuelling tools.
The pair spent three and a half hours outside. Ms. Sullivan is not the first woman to walk in space — that record belongs to Soviet cosmonaut Svetlana Savitskaya. — AP, UPI
