The National Media Authority (NMA) has announced the renaming of its iconic Studio 45 after the late Nobel laureate Dr Ahmed Zewail, coinciding with the ninth anniversary of his passing.
The announcement was made by Ahmed Al-Moslemani, the head of the NMA, who also unveiled a new initiative to revitalize scientific media in Egypt.

In a statement, Al-Moslemani highlighted the decline of science-focused programming and the need for a renewed effort to engage the public.
“We are studying ways to revive science media,” he said. As part of this push, Egyptian Television has launched a new programme, “Kalam Fi El-Ilm” (Talk on Science), hosted by Dr Sameh Saad.
This show is intended to be the first of many new scientific programs.
Al-Moslemani also reflected on Zewail’s legacy and his connection to Egyptian media, noting that radio played a significant role in introducing him to the public.
He specifically mentioned the popular programme “Aal Al-Nasya,” hosted by Amal Fahmy, which helped make Dr Zewail a familiar name to a wide audience.

To further the initiative, the NMA’s Maspero Centre for Studies, in collaboration with the Cultural Channel and Cultural Programme Radio, is organising an expanded symposium titled “The Reality and Future of Scientific Media in Egypt.” This event is part of a broader strategy by the authority to simplify science, attract younger generations (Gen Z and Gen Alpha) to scientific culture, and make complex knowledge accessible to the general public.

Dr Ahmed Zewail, who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1999 for his work in femtochemistry, remains a revered figure in the Arab world.
The renaming of Studio 45 and the new media initiative stand as a tribute to his enduring legacy.
