SHARM EL SHEIKH – Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Ghada Wali announced that the 9th session of the Conference of State Parties (COSP) to the United Nations Convention against Corruption approved eight resolutions supporting international efforts to counter corruption in the next years.
Speaking at the closing session on Friday, Wali said that Sharm El Sheikh’s declaration on fighting corruption underlined the necessity of recovering from coronavirus pandemic, as well as supporting States parties’ readiness to deal with future emergencies in line with the forward-looking commitments related to crisis response and recovery outlined in the UN General Assembly Special Session on Drugs (UNGASS’) political declaration.
During the session headed by Chairman of the Administrative Control Authority (ACA) Hassan Abdel Shafi, Wali noted that the conference had adopted resolutions on restoring stolen assets, activating regional and international cooperation and supporting education, in addition to the empowerment of youth.
