BEIJING – Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel el-Wazir on Tuesday discussed with General Manager of AVIC INTL Project Engineering Company Qian Rong prospects of cooperation in the implementation of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) project.

The meeting was attended by Plenipotentiary Khaled Milad and Egypt’s Deputy Ambassador to China Haitham Abdel Hadi.

The meeting took place on the sideline of transport minister’s visit to China as an envoy of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to attend the celebration marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance.

Wazir extended congratulations to AVIC manager Qian on the anniversary, emphasizing the strength of bilateral relations and the fruitful cooperation with AVIC in carrying out the LRT project.

For his part, Qian hailed the partnership with Egypt’s Ministry of Transport in the implementation of first and second phases of the LRT.

He also underlined ongoing cooperation in completing the third phase.

Minister Wazir highlighted President Sisi’s directives to expedite the completion and operation of the Cathedral of the Nativity and Strategic Command stations within the third phase of the LRT by March 2026 to serve residents of the New Administrative Capital and improve mobility.

AVIC director said that equipment for the third phase will be shipped from China to Egypt during September and will be installed immediately upon arrival.

He affirmed AVIC company’s commitment to the March 2026 deadline for operating the Cathedral of the Nativity and Strategic Command stations, in line with President Sisi’s directives.

The two sides discussed future cooperation in implementation of phase four of the LRT, extending from the New Obour station to 10th of Ramadan City.

Wazir stressed the importance of phase four in serving the high population density and industrial areas of 10th of Ramadan.

The meeting tackled potential cooperation in phase five of the LRT, as well as updates on the memorandum of understanding between the National Authority for Tunnels and AVIC regarding the (Rehab – New Administrative Capital) electric train project, extending from Rehab interchange station on Metro Line 4 eastwards to the New Administrative Capital Airport station.
