CAIRO – Egypt is keen on promoting co-operation with all development partners in order to support development goals and prepare for the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC –COP27), affirmed International Co-operation Minister Rania el-Mashat.
During her meeting with Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction Mami Mizutori, Mashat said that Egypt is also exerting efforts to achieve human-centered energy transition, shoring up green finance, promoting climate action and providing support to the adaptation projects.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mashat welcomed Mizutori’s visit to Egypt and affirmed keenness on promoting co-operation between the Egyptian government and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).
The meeting also took up ways of promoting cooperation as part of Egypt’s preparations for hosting COP27, which will be held in Sharm el-Sheikh in November, as well as future efforts to prevent disasters within the framework of development priorities in Egypt and Egypt’s 2030 Vision.
The minister also referred to the government’s procedures to address climate change in a bid to preserve the environment and reduce the risks and disasters caused by climate change.
Mizutori, for her part, hailed Egypt’s efforts in addressing climate change to prevent possible risks, affirming that attaining climate change adaptation requires support from all relevant bodies, including governments, societies and companies.
