Minister of Social Solidarity, Maya Morsi, on Thursday reviewed the final preparations for the “2026 Matareya Iftar” in the Matareya district of Cairo Governorate.

The minister was accompanied by Executive Director of the Tahya Misr Fund, Tamer Abdel Fattah, and producer President of the National Film Festival, Hisham Suleiman.

The annual Iftar, scheduled for today, Thursday, Ramadan 15, has evolved into a widely-celebrated community tradition eagerly anticipated by thousands of visitors from within and beyond the district.

During the visit to the popular district, the minister toured the area, interacted with residents, and observed the concluding arrangements amid the distinctive Ramadan atmosphere that characterises Matareya.

She also met with the event organisers, who presented detailed updates on logistical preparations and confirmed the district’s readiness to welcome guests from across Egypt.

On the sidelines of the tour, Minister Morsi announced the launch of the “15th of Ramadan Youth Foundation,” an initiative dedicated to supporting the youth and residents of Matareya, coinciding with the annual Iftar gathering.Residents also received food boxes as part of the presidential initiative “Doors of Goodness,” implemented by the Ministry of Social Solidarity in co-operation with the Tahya Misr Fund.

The initiative aims to distribute three million food boxes nationwide and provide four million hot Iftar meals through the fund’s kitchens and the “Al-Mahrousa” kitchens affiliated with the ministry.

Residents of Matareya expressed their gratitude to President Sisi for the initiative and asked the minister to convey their appreciation following the distribution of the “Doors of Goodness” convoy.

The Matareya Iftar is considered one of the largest communal Ramadan Iftar gatherings in Egypt, with dining tables stretching across the district’s main streets to host thousands of fasting individuals.

The event is organised annually by the youth and residents of Matareya in cooperation with civil society organisations, reflecting a strong culture of volunteerism, social solidarity, and community participation that distinguishes the area.
