President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to boosting bilateral relations with Montenegro and expanding co-operation in the economic, trade and investment sectors.
He also underscored Egypt’s continued efforts to promote regional stability, support diplomatic solutions to conflicts and uphold the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
The remarks came during President Sisi’s meeting with Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović, who is on an official visit to Egypt, marking the first presidency visit between the two countries since diplomatic relations were established following Montenegro’s independence in 2006.
The meeting was followed by expanded talks attended by the two countries’ delegations, during which the leaders explored opportunities to advance bilateral co-operation across a broad range of sectors.
President Sisi highlighted the importance of capitalising on the opportunities available in both countries to enhance economic co-operation, diversify trade and promote investment.
He also praised the Parliament of Montenegro for establishing a parliamentary friendship group with Egypt, describing the initiative as an important step towards strengthening official relations and deepening ties between the two peoples.
The president also reviewed Egypt’s efforts to de-escalate regional tensions and resolve conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.
He stressed the importance of continued co-ordination among international partners and called on the United States and Iran to reach a comprehensive and sustainable agreement.
Reaffirming Egypt’s unwavering support for the sovereignty, security and stability of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) states, President Sisi reiterated Egypt’s categorical rejection of any unjustified attacks against Arab countries.
On the Palestinian issue, the president reaffirmed that a just and lasting settlement must be based on the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in accordance with international law.
He also reiterated Egypt’s rejection of any attempts to displace the Palestinian people from their land, while stressing the urgent need to accelerate the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid.
For his part, President Milatović expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended to him and his delegation.
He reaffirmed Montenegro’s commitment to strengthening co-operation with Egypt in areas of mutual interest and expressed his country’s desire to benefit from Egypt’s expertise in tourism, energy and infrastructure.
He also praised the success of Egyptian investments in Montenegro’s tourism sector, said his country hoped to attract further Egyptian investment and expand co-operation into other sectors, and commended Egypt’s efforts to combat illegal migration.
President Milatović also highlighted the close convergence between the positions of Egypt and Montenegro on regional and international issues, noting that both countries favour diplomacy and co-operation over conflict.
He further praised Egypt’s role, under President Sisi’s leadership, in promoting regional peace and stability, reaffirming Montenegro’s support for the two-state solution.
At the end of the meeting, the two presidents agreed that the visit would mark the beginning of a new phase of stronger bilateral relations and closer political co-ordination. President Milatović also invited President Sisi to pay an official visit to Montenegro, Presidency Spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy said in a statement.
