Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Eritrean counterpart Isaias Afwerki Saturday emphasized keenness on continuing the development of bilateral relations toward making a leap at the level of cooperation between the two sides in various economic, trade and security domains.

This came as President Sisi received Afwerki Saturday at Al Ittihadiya Presidential Palace where an official reception took place and the national anthems of both countries were played. Also, the guards of honor were reviewed by the two presidents.

President Sisi welcomed his Eritrean counterpart, according to Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy,

The discussions focused on reinvigorating trade exchange between the two sides as well as boosting flow of investments through supporting the presence of competent Egyptian companies in the Eritrean market to operate in sectors of shared priority and interest, the spokesman added.

The talks reviewed the regional situation, topped by the developments in the Red Sea and serious security updates in the region.

The both sides underscored the necessity of de-escalation and containing the situation, alongside reaching an immediate ceasefire deal in the Gaza Strip towards paving the way for a durable and comprehensive humanitarian access to war-wrecked strip and implementing the two-state solution, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the international resolutions.

They discussed the developments witnessed by the Horn of Africa and reached a consensus regarding the necessity of respecting the sovereignty of Somalia and rejecting all measures aimed at undermining such a sovereignty.

The situation in Sudan was also discussed by the two leaders, the spokesman said, adding that they asserted the significance of maintaining joint efforts between Egypt and Eritrea, within the framework of the path of neighboring countries.

They added that such efforts aim to reach earnest solutions to the crisis, conducive to a ceasefire, along with putting an end to the humanitarian suffering endured by the Sudanese people who have aspirations and hopes for achieving security, stability, and development.
