The State Information Service (SIS) and Dar al-Iftaa on Thursday signed a joint co-operation protocol at the conclusion of the 11th International Conference of Fatwa Institutions Worldwide, held in Cairo on September 2-3, under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The protocol aims to unify national efforts in media and awareness, highlighting the role of developmental and community media in building enlightened public awareness, promoting sound religious discourse, protecting family cohesion and preserving national identity, both domestically and internationally.

Egypt’s Grand Mufti and Head of the General Secretariat of Fatwa Institutions Worldwide Nazir Ayyad said the agreement reflects Dar al-Iftaa’s conviction that closer integration between religious and media institutions is essential to addressing contemporary intellectual and societal challenges.

He stressed the importance of an enlightened discourse combining sound Islamic principles with an accurate understanding of reality, noting the media’s key role in protecting families, promoting correct awareness, and consolidating moderation and social cohesion.

Ayyad added that the protocol would open new horizons for producing accessible awareness content addressing religious and family issues, countering rumours and extremist ideologies, reducing factors contributing to family disintegration, and safeguarding national identity.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of SIS Ambassador Alaa Youssef affirmed the SIS’s commitment to strengthening co-operation with Dar al-Iftaa and supporting efforts to promote public understanding of the true teachings of Islam in Egypt and abroad.

He said the SIS would utilise its media outlets and centres across Egypt, as well as its engagement with foreign correspondents and international media organisations, to disseminate Dar al-Iftaa’s awareness messages.

Ambassador Youssef added that specialised media content in several foreign languages would help correct misconceptions, promote moderation and tolerance, and raise awareness of issues affecting families and society.

He stressed that the co-operation would also highlight the Egyptian state and religious institutions’ efforts to counter extremism and misconceptions and present Islam’s principles of mercy, tolerance and respect for humanity.

The protocol provides for joint seminars and events, media and awareness programmes and campaigns, and content addressing societal challenges and the impact of technological advances.
