Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam affirmed on Wednesday the presidential initiative” Decent Life”, launched by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi aims to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development for rural areas.
The initiative also calls for raising standard livings of citizens and provide decent life for citizens, he added
The initiatives’ goals could be attained by promoting integration and unifying efforts among all State institutions, said Sewilam.
The minister received a report about the situation of ongoing water projects nationwide.
However, the Egyptian Irrigation Ministry is working on far-reaching, seasonal and proactive measures to better cope with floods and rains.
Speaking to MENA on Wednesday, spokesman for the Irrigation Minister Mohamed Ghanem said 1,400 facilities were established in different governorates as part of far-reaching measures to protect against flood risks.
Inspection of drainage ditches is carried out periodically in cities in Upper Egypt, the Red Sea governorate, North Sinai, South Sinai and Matrouh to make sure no obstructions or weeds are blocking the water flow, the minister said, noting that this is a seasonal measure.
As a proactive measure, the Irrigation Ministry acts, through its rain forecast center, to detect the amounts and places of rain three days ahead of the flood, Ghanem added.
