Beside the State’s success in confronting terrorism at the security level, Egypt has managed to take preempt terrorist activities ideologically, Chairman of the Religious Affairs Committee at the House of Representatives Ali Gomaa said.
During an interview with MENA office here on Saturday, Gomaa added that Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism (AOCE) is monitoring terrorist ideologies all over the world to analyze and dissect them, and explain how to counter malicious extremist thought, in co-operation with Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta’ observatory for monitoring infidelizing [takfiri] and extremist fatwas.
The Global House of Fatwa, which encompasses fatwa authorities all across the Muslim world, plays a major role in monitoring terrorist ideas and combating them, Gomaa said noting over 150,000 websites worldwide are involved in this action.
Gomaa said he had published five volumes that delve deep inside the terrorist mind to dissect it, which helps in identifying its development phases and where it had been before evolving into the terrorist phase.
As for renewing the religious discourse, Gomaa is not just the concern of some states, but it concerns the entire Muslim nation.
He explained that the renewal process must take into account five main points, namely: cognition, methodology, cognitive model, how to deal with traditional texts, and awareness of current realities.
