Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir has reaffirmed that co-operation between national institutions is essential to maximising state resources, boosting integration across government sectors and accelerating infrastructure development in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.

El-Wazir made the remarks as he and Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny attended on Thursday the signing of a co-operation protocol between the Egyptian Company for Construction and Maintenance of Transport Facilities and Airports, and the Egyptian Airports Company.

The agreement covers the upgrading and maintenance of main and service runways, as well as internal road networks at airports across Egypt, the Transport Ministry said in a statement.

It also supports the Egyptian Airports Company’s ongoing plans to manage, operate and modernise airports, improve passenger services and upgrade infrastructure and facilities in accordance with the latest international standards.

The protocol reinforces institutional co-operation between the Ministries of Transport and Civil Aviation to deliver airport infrastructure projects using advanced engineering standards and national expertise.

Minister El-Wazir explained that the agreement will capitalise on the technical and engineering capabilities of the Egyptian Company for Construction and Maintenance of Transport Facilities and Airports to implement runway rehabilitation works, maintain service roads, develop internal road networks, upgrade parking areas and service zones, and modernise airport infrastructure.

The agreement reflects the state’s commitment to utilising the expertise of national companies to deliver high-quality projects that enhance the efficiency of Egyptian airports and improve passenger services, he noted.

El-Wazir further emphasised that environmentally friendly recycling technologies will be employed to rehabilitate pavement layers, enabling more efficient use of resources, reducing project costs, shortening implementation periods and supporting Egypt’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure development.

The minister highlighted the company’s extensive experience in delivering airport development projects, including works at Sharm El-Sheikh, Aswan, Luxor, Marsa Matrouh, El Alamein and Sohag airports.

The protocol represents an important step towards consolidating national expertise, enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian airports, improving services for passengers and visitors, and supporting the state’s broader plans to develop the transport, logistics and civil aviation sectors through efficient, sustainable and integrated infrastructure projects, he added.
