President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met on Tuesday with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir to review key transport and infrastructure projects across the nation.

The meeting tackled the master plan for the development of the Damietta Port and the ongoing projects within this framework, Presidency Spokesman Mohamed el-Shennawy said.

The president also followed up work progress in upgrading and expanding the 116-kilometre Greater Cairo Ring Road, as well as maintenance and expansion works on the 6th of October Bridge to accommodate rising traffic volumes, the spokesman added.

Minister El-Wazir outlined efforts to expand Egypt’s environment-friendly, sustainable mass transit network, including progress on the second phase of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.

El-Wazir also reviewed developments in upgrading the Nile River bus system in Greater Cairo, preparations for the operation of the East Nile Monorail, and progress in the high-speed electric rail network, el-Shennawy added.

He further highlighted plans to relocate part of the Alexandria–Marsa Matrouh railway line between Fouka and Samla, as well as updates on the 6th Cairo Underground project.

In addition, the meeting reviewed the latest developments in the comprehensive plan to develop maritime transport industry as a pillar of Egypt’s Vision 2030, in line with directives to position Egypt as a regional hub for transport, logistics and transit trade.

Minister El-Wazir also reviewed the ongoing efforts to enhance co-operation with African countries, particularly Djibouti and Tanzania, as part of Egypt’s drive to strengthen ties with partners in the continent, and to support their development through joint projects serving mutual interests.

President Sisi stressed the importance of continuing these efforts in line with Egypt’s broader move towards supporting development across the continent.

The president also underscored the need to complete all transport projects on schedule, to the highest quality standards and within the shortest possible timeframe- particularly mass transit projects- given their role in improving services to citizens, attracting investments and boosting tourism.

He also stressed the importance of localising the transport industry and developing Egypt’s port network in a way that maximises the benefits of existing infrastructure, strengthens national capabilities and creates more job opportunities.
