Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly convened a meeting on Sunday with Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat to follow up on implementation mechanisms for the “Industry’s Sun” (Shams Al-Sina’a) initiative.
At the outset of the meeting, Prime Minister Madbouly highlighted that the initiative stands as a top priority for President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
It directly supports the national strategy to expand reliance on new and renewable energy sources, reduce energy expenditures for the industrial sector, diversify power generation, boost local production, enhance the global and domestic competitiveness of Egyptian products, and localise solar technologies.
Prime Minister Madbouly emphasised the imperative of focusing on ongoing maintenance and operational integrity, specifically the routine monitoring of solar panels, inverters, and grid-connection and control systems.
This forms part of a broader national framework governing project execution, operation, maintenance, and technical workforce training.
Minister Esmat noted that the programme substantially lowers factory energy overheads, curtails natural gas consumption, and improves production efficiency.
Furthermore, it provides a vital impetus for localising renewable energy component manufacturing and maximising domestic content, thereby reinforcing industrial value chains and expanding export opportunities.
For his part, Minister Esmat outlined that the initiative targets establishing solar power generation plants with a cumulative capacity of 1,000 megawatts, servicing approximately 7,000 factories across the country.
Concurrently, a state-wide project is under way in coordination with all ministries and public entities to utilise the rooftops of government buildings for solar generation, supporting national energy efficiency goals and the broader energy transition plan.
