The state-run Petrojet Company has secured a $22.7 million contract to supply natural gas to the Al-Muwaqqar Industrial Development Zone, south of Amman, Jordan. This step aligns with directives from the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, to support the regional expansion of Egyptian petroleum sector companies.
The project marks a new milestone in the growing regional presence of Egyptian state enterprises and their ability to compete for major energy and infrastructure projects in international markets, the Petroleum Ministry said in a statement.
The contract was signed by Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh and Petrojet Chairman Walid Lotfy, reaffirming close cooperation between Egypt and Jordan while reflecting confidence in Egyptian technical capabilities.
The project involves the design, supply, implementation, and construction of an approximately 22-kilometre natural gas pipeline connecting the industrial zone to Jordan’s main network via the Arab Gas Pipeline. It also includes building gas reduction and metering stations, alongside a transmission and receiving facility.
Scheduled for completion within 18 months, the venture is being implemented on behalf of the Jordanian ministry by a consortium comprising Petrojet and the Ahmed Yousef Tarawneh Company, the project’s general contractor.
This successful bid demonstrates Petrojet’s capacity to translate accumulated expertise into international business, reinforcing the ministry’s broader strategy to drive regional expansion and capture opportunities across foreign energy markets.
