CAIRO – National Council of Women (NCW) President Amal Ammar will lead Egypt’s delegation to the United Nations 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) that will take place between March 10-21 in New York.

This session will mark the 30th anniversary of the 1995 World Conference on Women (“Beijing +30”).

Ammar will deliver Egypt’s speech during the opening session to review national efforts in supporting women’s empowerment and promoting their rights at the social, economic and political levels.

The Egyptian delegation will also participate in a number of sessions and events on the sidelines of the session to discuss issues on achieving gender equality and ensuring women’s empowerment globally, within the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the world’s leading intergovernmental body and the largest annual gathering dedicated exclusively to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women.

It was established in 1946 by a resolution of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Its secretariat is provided by UN Women, the United Nations agency dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women.

With five years remaining until the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals deadline, the international community will convene this year to conduct “an assessment of current challenges affecting the implementation of the Platform of Action and the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of women.”
