Mega national agricultural project of New Delta, 1st Israeli embassy in Gulf region, and death of Billionaire Onsi Sawiris have made yesterday’s press headlines.

 

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi yesterday presided over a meeting to follow up the progress of the mega national agricultural project of the New Delta, which is aimed to expand the arable area by one million feddan in a first phase.

Commander of Air Defense Forces Major General Mohamed Hegazi asserted yesterday that the forces are fully prepared to confront any challenges, deter threats against Egypt’s airspace whether in the time of peace or war, as well as to counter any hostilities and protect the Egyptian skies on all strategic fronts.

The cabinet has approved the reduction of fees for issuing certificates proving that a traveler had received coronavirus vaccines to LE100 for Egyptians and $10 for foreigners.

Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed announced that Egypt is ranked second in Africa in terms of coronavirus vaccination rates.

A group of Israeli settlers stormed on Tuesday the Al Aqsa Mosque from al Maghareba Gate amid tight security by Israeli police and made a provocative tour of the halls.

Nine months after Israel and United Arab Emirates signed a normalisation deal, Israel’s Foreign Minister Yair Lapid opened the first country embassy in the Gulf region during a trip to UAE on Tuesday.

According to the Central Bank of Egypt data appeared on Tuesday, the foreign investments in treasury bills (T-bills), one of Egypt’s key debt instruments, surged to nearly 350 billion (about $22.5 billion) by the end of May.

Egyptian Billionaire Onsi Sawiris died on Tuesday at the age of 91. Engineer Onsi Sawiris is the father of the famous Egyptian businessmen Naguib, Nassef, and Samih Sawiris and the founder of the Orascom Corporation.

Tunisia’s Foreign Minister Othman Jerandi and his Norwegian counterpart probed on Tuesday the possibility of bringing the GERD to the table of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) session in July.
