Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly urged Austrian businesses to expand their investments and production in Egypt, highlighting the country’s strategic position as a gateway to African and Arab markets.

Madbouly made the remarks during a meeting with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker in New York on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly. The discussions covered economic and trade relations, energy cooperation and regional security, Egypt’s Cabinet said.

The Egyptian prime minister proposed exploring the establishment of an Austrian logistics zone in Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone. Such a zone could serve as a launchpad for Austrian exports to Arab and African markets while supporting greater integration between the two economies.

Madbouly also invited Austria to expand its investments in Egypt’s renewable energy sector, particularly in solar and wind power, as well as green hydrogen. He said increased cooperation in these areas could create new opportunities for businesses and support both countries’ energy objectives.

He further called for the reactivation of the joint commission between Egypt and Austria and urged greater cooperation on labour mobility, including the recruitment of skilled Egyptian workers to address labour market needs in Austria.

Madbouly highlighted Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty’s recent visit to Austria, during which the two countries held their first round of political consultations. He called for regular ministerial-level consultations to help advance bilateral relations.

The prime minister also congratulated Austria on its upcoming election to a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council in 2027, expressing hope that Egypt and Austria would strengthen co-ordination on regional and international issues during Austria’s term.

Stocker stressed the depth of relations between Austria and Egypt and discussed regional developments, including the escalation of tensions in the region.

Both sides underlined the need to contain the escalation and reduce tensions, citing their impact on supply chains, oil prices, maritime security and economic activity.

Madbouly said Egypt, under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, was working to restore security and stability in the region and advance de-escalation efforts. He called for stronger international efforts to reduce tensions, resume negotiations and pursue peaceful settlements.
