Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine el-Qabbag on Monday attended the closing ceremony of initiative by the Commercial International Bank (CIB) ‘Differently Abled’.
CIB executive chairman Hussein Abaza and CIB board chairman Sherif Sami attended the ceremony.
The minister thanked the CIB for its support for people with special needs in the work environment, saying: “We are exerting tireless effort to integrate people with special needs into society.”
“Paying attention to the needs of the disabled and rehabilitating them for the labour market is a must. The disabled people are not weak. They just need care and support to feel encouraged to engage in society,” the minister said.
The government is determined to empower people with special needs economically and professionally, adding that the presidential initiative Decent Life includes the protection of the rights of disabled people.
While the disabled may face difficulties in finding a job, their skills and abilities must be enhanced, she said, adding: “That was the role played by the CIB in its ‘Differently Abled’ initiative.”
The disabled must be guaranteed equal opportunities through a system that ensures social insurance and health protection and programmes to prepare them for employment outside the home, the minister said.
