Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Randa El-Menshawy has reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to accelerating the implementation of drinking water and sanitation projects under the presidential “Decent Life” initiative.

She stressed the importance of meeting approved timelines while maintaining the highest quality standards to improve public services and support the comprehensive development of rural communities across Egypt, the ministry said in a statement.

“The ministry’s sectors and affiliated executive bodies continue to conduct regular field inspections and closely monitor project sites in line with the directives of the political leadership to expedite the delivery of the initiative,” the minister said.

She added that implementation challenges are being addressed promptly to maximise the benefits of the projects and improve the quality of life for residents of the targeted villages.

El-Menshawy also reviewed a report on inspection visits conducted by officials from the National Authority for Drinking Water and Sanitation in several governorates to monitor progress and ensure compliance with technical and quality standards.

In Aswan Governorate, officials inspected several drinking water and sanitation projects in the Nasr El-Nuba and Kom Ombo districts, including pumping stations and wastewater treatment facilities, stressing the need to accelerate implementation while maintaining technical standards.

In Beni Suef Governorate, they also followed up on the commissioning of the Taha El-Bisha wastewater treatment plant, which has a treatment capacity of 15,000 cubic metres per day and was built at an investment cost of approximately LE750 million.

The facility is expected to significantly improve sanitation services for eight villages under the presidential “Decent Life” initiative.

The monitoring programme also covered sanitation projects in Sohag Governorate and several wastewater treatment plants in Damietta Governorate, where officials reviewed implementation progress and stressed the importance of adhering to construction schedules and approved technical specifications.

Concluding the review, El-Menshawy underscored the importance of continuing field inspections and strengthening coordination among implementing agencies to ensure projects are completed on schedule, supporting the state’s efforts to enhance drinking water and sanitation services and advance sustainable development across all governorates.
