Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem held a meeting on Wednesday with representatives of Haier Egypt for Electrical Appliances, headed by the company’s CEO Yang Linpeng, to discuss its expansion plans in the Egyptian market.
The meeting reviewed the company’s eco-friendly industrial complex, built on 200,000 square meters in the 10th of Ramadan City. The complex includes four factories: a central and home air-conditioning plant, a washing machine plant, a TV and electronic screens plant, and a metal forming, plastic injection and painting plant. The complex has total investments of $135 million and an annual production capacity of more than one million electrical appliances.
The 1st phase of the complex began operations two years ago and exports 30% of its production to various markets. The 2nd phase is scheduled to open next November, producing refrigerators and freezers with an annual capacity of more than 500,000 units.
Hashem said the Ministry of Industry takes pride in Haier’s presence in Egypt and looks forward to further expansion by the company, stressing that this reflects global manufacturers’ confidence in the Egyptian economy and its investment climate. He said such investments contribute to meeting local demand, promoting technology localization and boosting exports.
Hashem called on Haier to increase local content and value added by studying the production of specialized components, including chillers for central air-conditioning systems. He also stressed the importance of developing and qualifying local suppliers to meet the company’s production needs.
For his part, Yang Linpeng praised the Ministry of Industry’s continued support and cooperation, affirming Haier’s commitment to further investments and expanding its production base in Egypt while relying on Egyptian talent and expertise to support economic development and strengthen the “Made in Egypt” brand in global markets.
