Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has received a phone call from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who expressed his keenness to continue consultation with the President on developments of the current escalation in the Gaza Strip and military confrontations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides in light of the current rapid developments that pose a threat to regional stability.
The two sides reviewed ongoing contacts and moves at the regional and international levels for restoring calm and reducing tension, Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
They also underscored the importance of avoiding an expansion of the conflict circle and allowing room for diplomatic efforts to protect civilians and prevent the deteriorating humanitarian conditions from being exacerbated, added the spokesman.
Guterres expressed thanks to President Sisi for Egypt’s efforts and appreciated role in facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
