Chairman of the Egyptian Medicines Authority (EDA) Ali Al-Ghamrawi stressed the importance of expanding international partnerships and exchanging regulatory expertise to develop Egypt’s pharmaceutical sector, strengthen the competitiveness of locally manufactured medicines and facilitate their access to global markets.
Al-Ghamrawi made the remarks during a meeting with Chief Executive Officer of Ireland’s Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) Grainne Power, who is also a member of the Executive Committee of the International Coalition of Medicines Regulatory Authorities (ICMRA), on the sidelines of the alliance’s meetings in Seoul, South Korea.
The meeting discussed prospects for bilateral co-operation and ways to benefit from Ireland’s technical expertise and regulatory capabilities to support the development of Egypt’s pharmaceutical regulatory system, improve institutional performance and align national practices with international standards.
Discussions focused on specialised technical support and capacity-building opportunities, particularly in the registration of medical products and pharmacovigilance, through exchanging knowledge, expertise and regulatory best practices.
Both sides also explored the possibility of developing a joint roadmap outlining priority areas and practical mechanisms for implementing cooperation initiatives during the coming period.
Al-Ghamrawi underscored that co-operation with leading international regulatory authorities represents a fundamental pillar of efforts to modernise Egypt’s regulatory framework, enhance the quality and competitiveness of its pharmaceutical industry and create wider opportunities for Egyptian medical products to penetrate international markets.
For her part, Power expressed her interest in expanding cooperation with the Egyptian Medicines Authority and strengthening the exchange of expertise in various regulatory fields.
