CAIRO – German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier inaugurated on Thursday the campus of the German International University (GIU) in the New Administrative Capital Thursday as part of his current visit to Egypt, the first by a German president in 25 years.

The German International University (GIU) in the New Administrative Capital and the German University in New Cairo (GUC) expressed – in a joint statement – their pride in the visit of the German president and his opening of the Gate of Hope, which symbolises cross-border education and embodies the principles of openness and the culture of global peace, and that education and science are the basis for a more just, peaceful and interconnected world.

The statement expressed appreciation for statements of the German president during the joint press conference with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his intention to sign the higher education agreement, which is a sign of good co-operation between Egypt and Germany.

The German president underlined the need to expand and strengthen higher education and technical education between the two countries.

The German International University (GIU) is a German institution that aims to promote the German higher education system in Egypt, the Middle East, the African region and the world. It also seeks to promote innovation in industry and economy in the region by strengthening partnership between Germany and its partners around the world, using the latest teaching methods, advanced curricula and modern technology.
