Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty asserted Wednesday the importance of strengthening Egypt’s role in joint African action and regional and continental forums, underscoring the need to continue advancing Egypt’s priorities within African organizations.

A meeting between the foreign minister and senior officials at the Ministry’s Africa Multilateral Organizations ‘s sector aimed at enhancing coordination on joint African efforts and promoting Egypt’s national priorities within the African Union (AU) and regional blocs.

Assistant Foreign Minister for Africa Multilateral Organizations Mohamed Gad took part in the meeting.

The foreign minister reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at promoting peace and security across the continent and enhancing efficiency of the African joint action system.

Abdelatty also highlighted the importance of expanding Egyptian representation within the AU Commission, leveraging the country’s highly qualified human resources.

He stressed the significance of utilizing Egypt’s current membership in the AU Peace and Security Council (PSC) to promote peacebuilding initiatives, especially in conflict zones, while supporting the institutional reform process within the Union to ensure greater efficiency, accountability and financial discipline.

The minister also underscored the need to maximize Egypt’s leadership role in post-conflict reconstruction and development.

Abdelatty emphasized the importance of following up the outcomes of the COMESA Summit, expanding the role of the private sector and promoting investment opportunities and Egyptian business expertise under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework to boost exports and foster economic partnerships across the continent.
