Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a meeting on Sunday with representatives of a number of American Jewish organisations, on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
During the meeting, Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with the United States and to further advancing bilateral co-operation across various fields.
He stressed the importance of building on the positive momentum in Egyptian-American relations and enhancing existing mechanisms of joint co-operation in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both countries.
Turning to regional developments, Abdelatty underscored Egypt’s longstanding commitment to resolving conflicts through peaceful means and political and diplomatic channels, with the aim of promoting regional and international peace, stability and security.
In this context, he pointed to the Egyptian-Israeli Peace Treaty as a longstanding example of Egypt’s strategic commitment to peace and regional stability.
Abdelatty also reviewed Egypt’s efforts to address developments related to the Palestinian cause, highlighting the country’s sustained coordination with international mediators to contain the regional escalation resulting from the war in Gaza.
He noted that these efforts contributed to reaching a ceasefire agreement and convening the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit last year.
Abdelatty further stressed the importance of implementing the second phase of the ceasefire agreement and ensuring the sustained and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip.
He reiterated Egypt’s categorical rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians or compel them to leave their homes.
Abdelatty further reiterated Egypt’s firm rejection and condemnation of unilateral Israeli measures seeking to alter the situation on the ground in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
He specifically cited settlement expansion, the E1 project, attempts at annexation, and measures aimed at changing the legal and historical status quo of Jerusalem and its holy sites.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Nader Zaki stated that the meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on regional developments and reaffirm Egypt’s approach to addressing the region’s challenges through dialogue, diplomacy and political solutions.
