FM reiterates Egypt’s commitment to delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry asserted anew Egypt’s commitment to continued work to ensure access of humanitarian assistance into the Gaza Strip despite Israel’s obstacles.

He made the remarks during a meeting on Tuesday with Sigrid Kaag, United Nations Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza.

Kaag is on her first visit to the region after assuming her post under Security Council Resolution 2720 (2023) to facilitate, coordinate, monitor, and verify humanitarian relief consignments to Gaza.

The talks tackled the catastrophic humanitarian situation and deteriorating services in Gaza, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

Shoukry stood on the UN official’s vision on priorities and missions in the coming period.

Shoukry asserted Egypt’s support for the UN and offering all needed facilities to carry out it mission and fully implement the resolution of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

He urged swift launch of a UN mechanism for accelerating humanitarian aid delivery to the Gaza Strip, stressing that Israel has to adhere to facilitating the UN official’s mission.

Shoukry asserted that ceasing fire remains the optimal way to end the humanitarian tragedy in the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, Kaag voiced deep appreciation of the efforts exerted by Egypt, especially offering and delivering aid to the enclave.

She also lauded support for the UNSC resolution in the regard and facilitating use of Rafah crossing by UN relief agencies to allow humanitarian aid into the enclave.

Kaag is scheduled to visit Arish Airport and land Rafah crossing on Wednesday within the framework of coordination efforts to launch the UN mechanism on accelerating assistance to the Gaza Strip.
