As part of Egypt’s efforts to contain instability in the Middle East, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Tuesday with US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff. The discussion focused on regional developments and international efforts to reduce tensions.
For his part, Abdelatty stressed the importance of intensifying regional and international efforts to de-escalate and prevent the expansion of conflict. He underlined the need to prioritise political and diplomatic solutions, noting that dialogue remains the most effective path to safeguarding the security and interests of states and peoples in the region.
The minister highlighted the significance of adhering to the US–Iran memorandum of understanding and implementing its provisions as a constructive step towards easing tensions and strengthening stability in the Middle East.
The call also addressed the security of international waterways. Abdelatty emphasised the necessity of ensuring freedom and safety of navigation, preventing disruption to shipping, and upholding international law. He noted the critical role of secure navigation in supporting global trade, supply chains, and energy security, stressing the need to shield international waterways from the repercussions of regional tensions.
