Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has stressed the importance of respecting the sovereignty of Sudan and maintaining its institutions, unity and the integrity of its territories.
During a meeting Sunday with Annette Weber, the EU Special Representative for the Horn of Africa, the foreign minister called on all donors to honor the pledge they made during the donor conference held in July.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said the foreign minister welcomed the EU support to Egypt’s efforts to find a political solution to the Sudanese crisis pointing out to the Sudan neighbors conference Cairo had hosted months ago.
The meeting also tackled the conditions in Somalia and efforts to fight Al Shabab group that fights the Somali government and restore stability on the Somali lands, said the spokesman.
On Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, he said that the meeting dealt with the latest negotiations on the issue and Egypt’s commitment to the importance of reaching a binding and legal agreement on filling and operating the dam.
For her part, the EU envoy hailed Egypt’s important role in the region, saying the EU is keen on coordinating with Egypt on all regional files.
