Egypt’s Finance Minister Mohamed Ma’eit has decided to form a committee, whose job it will be to ease customs clearance and value-added tax return to participants in the upcoming climate summit, which will be held in the Egyptian Red Sea resort city of Sharm el Sheikh in November.

The committee should group senior officials of the customs and tax authorities, the Finance Ministry said in a statement Sunday.

A simplified guide has been issued in Arabic and English about the customs clearance measures and VAT returns to be adopted temporarily upon departure of the participants, read the statement.

Facilitated customs rules for COP27 guests

Customs procedures will be facilitated for Egypt’s guests of the COP27 climate summit, thanks to a ministry of finance committee.

Egypt’s Minister of Finance Mohamed Maeet decreed to the formation of a committee of Egyptian Tax Authority and Customs Authority officials to facilitate customs procedures and Value Added Tax (VAT) refunds to visitors who will be attending the COP27 climate conference in Sharm el-Sheikh in November.

The committee will be tasked with facilitating temporary customs release of all equipment and machinery brought by the UN secretariat, official delegations and international briefing delegations that will be participating in the UN climate conference, the minister said.

A manual in Arabic and English explains procedures under the temporary release system, advance customs clearance procedures, and VAT refund procedures for foreign passengers.

The manual will be circulated, uploaded and published on the COP27 official website, the Ministry of Finance website, and the websites of other related authorities, the minister added.

Customs Authority chairman el-Shahat Ghaturi said the committee will coordinate with the ministries of environment and foreign affairs.
