The fantasia-class cruise ship MSC Splendid is due to dock Ain Sokhna Port next week, an official statement said on Thursday.
The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) authority added in its statement that Ain Sokhna will be one of Splendid’s ports several times within the next six months during its world cruises.
This comes as part of government plans to promote the use of Egypt’s ports for cruise ships and make SCZone ports more competitive, the statement added.
On board Splendid are shopping malls, swimming pools and entertainment venues and accommodation for 1,500 persons.
SCZone chairman Waleed Gamal Eddin said: “The zone plans to use its ports for cruises, which bring hard currency into the country.”
“The zone will be co-ordinating with the relevant bodies to prepare for the reception and departure of tourists from cruise ships,” Gamal Eddin added.
The cruise liner MSC Sinfonia cruise ship arrived at Ain Sokhna from Greece on Thursday on a one-day trip yesterday with 1,507 passengers.
