The Egyptian Industrial Development Authority and a German agency held a conference on industry in Upper Egypt.
The Industrial Development Authority and the German Agency for International Co-operation (GIZ) organised a business development services conference entitled ‘Towards a better industrial future for Upper Egypt’.
The conference was held in the Kalahin-Qeft industrial zone in Qena.
Assistant general secretary of the governorate Mohamed Salah Abu Karisha, IDA economic advisor Heba Nasharti, local IDA branch manager Mohamed Ezzat Darwish, GIZ consultant Sameh Hammad and Qeft industrial zone director Mahmoud Salloum were present at the conference.
The conference aimed to organise a meeting between industrial investors and business development service providers to help small and medium-sized companies achieve their goals, raise their profitability and provide skills and management training, thus helping companies develop plans for future development.
The industrial sector is at the forefront of economic sectors that contribute to gross domestic product.
Industry is also the main focus of the government’s economic reform and an essential element in job creation for sustainable development plans.
Qena Governorate is working to overcome all obstacles to investment to achieve an economic renaissance, improve the investment and marketing climate for businesses and investment opportunities available.
This will contribute to the expansion of investment projects and diversify existing industries in each industrial zone to meet the needs of the local community and provide real job opportunities.
Ms Nasharti said the government seeks to develop Upper Egyptian industry as the area possesses unique human and natural resources. Business development services help investors expand their businesses and make them better able to improve product quality for global markets.
Mr Sameh Hammad said GIZ has been working in Egypt for 65 years providing technical support for the Egyptian government.
