CAIRO – Minister of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs Soha Gendi said that ministry throughout the past period has been keen on dealing with the repercussion of global crises, armed-conflicts and natural disasters on the Egyptian expats living in countries hit by such events.

The action is meant to underscore the strength of the state along with due attention paid to its 14-million nationals living abroad and their welfare, the minister said.

Gendi made the remarks while receiving Swiss Ambassador to Cairo Yvonne Baumann for talks on means of boosting cooperation in joint files, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs.

The minister reviewed good relations linking Egypt and Switzerland in several domains, highlighting the presence of a distinguished Egyptian community in the central European country.

The two sides tackled the files of mutual concern, including the strategy of fighting the illegal immigration and ensuring the integration of returnees in their homeland and society, the statement stated.

Meanwhile, the Swiss ambassador described as outstanding the relations with Egypt, hailing the development leap attained in Egypt since assuming her post.

Baumann said she is looking forward to signing the cooperation declaration in the emigration field between the two sides, the statement added.
