Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat unveiled on Monday that Emirati companies are partners in the success of numerous electricity-sector projects, particularly renewable energy initiatives.
This, he said, comes within the framework of Egypt’s National Energy Strategy and its transition towards greater reliance on renewable energy sources and battery storage systems.
Esmat made the remarks during a meeting with UAE Ambassador to Cairo Hamad Al Zaabi at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital to discuss ways to strengthen co-operation, partnerships and investment in electricity and renewable energy.
The minister stressed the importance of private-sector participation in implementing the electricity sector’s strategy, noting that the state is supporting and encouraging private investment to play a greater role in the national economy.
He added that the private sector is leading solar and wind energy projects.
During the meeting also, Minister Esmat reviewed measures to support private-sector participation in solar and wind projects, battery energy storage, and initiatives to support, develop and modernise the national electricity grid and increase its capacity to accommodate new generation capacities.
For his part, UAE Ambassador to Cairo Hamad Al Zaabi praised Egyptian-Emirati relations, describing them as a model of Arab cooperation.
He highlighted the two countries’ deep historical and cultural ties and broad shared interests, reflected in partnerships across various fields, particularly investment and trade.
