Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli attended a ceremony on Wednesday night marking the 12th anniversary of Egypt’s Tahya Misr Fund, which announced a wide-ranging package of aid for vulnerable families and support for victims of a recent road crash.

Madbouli offered condolences to the families of those killed in a collision on the Ismailia road and announced that the fund would finance 100 Umrah pilgrimages for the parents of victims and those injured in the accident, following President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives.

The fund will also provide comprehensive support to families affected by the crash, officials said.

The event, held in New Alamein’s Heritage City, highlighted the fund’s work in social protection, healthcare, housing, education, vocational training and economic empowerment, as well as emergency relief efforts inside and outside Egypt.

As part of the anniversary initiatives, the fund said it would distribute more than 500,000 items of clothing and footwear, 50,000 food boxes and 50 tonnes of meat to vulnerable families.

It will also provide household appliances and supplies, shopping vouchers worth LE 5,000 ($104), and other essential goods.

The fund plans to offer 200 additional Umrah pilgrimages to vulnerable families, with beneficiaries to be selected through a public draw.

Support for people with disabilities will include wheelchairs, prosthetic limbs, digital hearing aids, white canes and Braille writing tools. The fund will also distribute supplies for elderly people, including adult diapers.

The fund’s executive director, Tamer Abdel Fattah, said its 12-year record reflected co-operation among government institutions, banks, private companies, businessmen, civil society groups and volunteers.

The fund has registered six Guinness World Records for charitable and humanitarian work and has been recognised by the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation for its relief and development efforts, he said.

Tahya Misr has also sent aid to Palestinians in Gaza and to Lebanon, including food, medical and other humanitarian supplies. Abdel Fattah said it had helped send what he described as the largest aid bridge to Gaza, carrying thousands of tonnes of essential goods.

The fund was established in 2014 and operates under the patronage of President Sisi. Its programmes aim to support disadvantaged households and contribute to Egypt’s social protection and development goals.
