Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdel-Aati, held phone talks with the US President’s Special Envoy for Syria and Iraq, Tom Barrack, to discuss regional developments, mainly in the two countries.
Abdel-Aati reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to safeguarding Syria’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and reiteratedCairo’s condemnation of the recent terrorist attack that hit Damascus.
He also stressed the importance of consolidating Syria’s national institutions, rejecting any external interference in its internal affairs, and underscoring the need for collective efforts to combat terrorism and extremism in all their forms.
The two sides also discussed developments in Iraq, including the Iraqi government’s efforts to strengthen state authority, regulate arms possession and ensure that weapons remain exclusively under the control of official state institutions.
Abdel-Aati reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast support for Iraq’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing Cairo’s continued backing of Iraqi state institutions in addressing the country’s various challenges.
