Egypt’s Minister of Education and Technical Education Mohamed Abdel Latif and President of The Japan Foundation, Shinya Kurosawa, signed on Thursday a cooperation agreement to introduce Japanese as a second language for students at Egyptian-Japanese Schools starting from the 2026/2027 academic year.
The programme will initially be launched in 10 Egyptian-Japanese Schools for preparatory-stage students.
It marks the first partnership of its kind between the Education Ministry and The Japan Foundation, the official organization responsible for promoting Japanese language education worldwide.
Under the agreement, the foundation will work with the ministry to develop a Japanese language curriculum tailored to the Egyptian educational system. In addition to teaching listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, the curriculum will introduce students to Japanese culture and values to strengthen cultural understanding between the two countries.
The agreement also includes a comprehensive training programme for Japanese language teachers. Educators have been selected according to joint criteria set by the ministry and The Japan Foundation to ensure high-quality instruction that meets international standards.
