Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty and British Foreign Secretary David Lammy chaired on Thursday the 2nd round of the Egyptian-British Participation Council, held in Cairo.
Representatives of the ministries of investment, foreign trade and planning took part in the event in addition to representatives of the British Department of Business and Trade.
The council tackled means to boost bilateral ties in the different fields to meet the aspirations of both countries, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Tamim Khallaf said.
Abdelatty said that he is looking forward to bolstering the strong partnership with the UK in the different sectors, the spokesman said.
The ministers reviewed the successive political developments in the Middle East and exchanged points of view on the latest developments in the Gaza Strip, Syria, Sudan, Somalia and the Red Sea in addition to water security and cooperaiton in Africa.
The council also discussed ways to promote economic, trade and investment ties between both countries, the spokesman added.
Abdelatty asserted Egypt’s interest in boosting the volume of trade exchange and the British direct investments in Egypt to achieve mutual benefit, especially in light of promising investment opportunities in various sectors in Egypt, topped by the sectors of renewable energy, infrastructure, financial and banking services, agricultural sector, logistics and transport.
Abdelatty reviewed the measures and steps taken by the Egyptian government to improve the national economy and support the private sector.
