Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population announced that seasonal influenza vaccines will be available through the Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA) from September 1, ahead of winter and the start of the school year.
The ministry said more than 300,000 doses will be provided gradually through 28 VACSERA centres across most governorates.
Both trivalent and quadrivalent vaccines approved by the Egyptian Drug Authority will be available from several manufacturers, including products from South Korea, Sanofi of France and Abbott of the United States.
The ministry said influenza is one of the most common respiratory viruses, particularly among children in schools and during large gatherings, making vaccination an important preventive measure to reduce infections and complications.
According to the ministry, the vaccines provide seasonal protection for more than six months.
It urged citizens, particularly children, elderly people and those with chronic diseases, to receive the vaccine at approved centres to protect themselves and help reduce the spread of the virus.
