Egypt is stepping up efforts to develop infrastructure and improve public services in Luxor, in line with the governorate’s historical and international significance.
Planning and Economic Development Minister, Ahmed Rostom, began an extensive field tour of the governorate to inspect development projects in the health, education and infrastructure sectors.
The tour started at the new headquarters of Luxor University in New Tiba City, where Rostom reviewed construction progress at the university’s new teaching hospital. The project has an investment cost of around LE4.5 billion, with its first phase currently under implementation.
The minister also inspected the buildings of the Faculties of Engineering and Oral and Dental Medicine, followed by a visit to the water treatment plant in Sun City and a review of road paving and development works on the governorate’s main road network.
Rostom described the university hospital as one of the most important ongoing projects in Luxor, saying it would bring a significant improvement in healthcare services.
He stressed that the project reflects the government’s focus on investing in human capital, adding that the ministry is coordinating with the Health Ministry and the governorate to ensure completion according to the agreed timetable.
He noted that Luxor has witnessed progress across several sectors in recent years, supported by state investments and the presidential Decent Life initiative.
The minister also highlighted the expansion of higher education in Upper Egypt, pointing to Luxor National University, New Tiba Technological University and Luxor University, which became an independent institution in 2019.
