Egypt’s Minister of Local Development and Environment, Manal Awad, said emergency response centers across the country remain on high alert following the 5.6-magnitude earthquake that struck early Monday, while confirming there were no reports of injuries or widespread damage.
The ministry’s National Emergency and Public Safety Network (NAS) activated its emergency operations immediately after the quake, coordinating with governorates and relevant authorities to assess its impact and respond to any incidents.
According to the ministry, only a limited number of reports involving aging buildings were received in Cairo and Beheira governorates. In Cairo’s Rod El Farag district, parts of the walls of an old residential building collapsed without causing injuries. Residents were evacuated as a precaution while authorities began structural reinforcement and secured the surrounding area. Another old building in El-Waily also underwent a precautionary inspection.
In Beheira, officials responded after parts of a balcony fell from an unoccupied old house in Hosh Issa. The site was secured and precautionary measures were taken.
Awad instructed emergency operations centers to maintain maximum readiness, continue round-the-clock monitoring and ensure rapid coordination with governorates and relevant agencies to respond to any developments.
The ministry said the NAS will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates through official channels if necessary.
