During an official visit to the Russian Federation, Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat toured a Rosatom facility specialising in the manufacture and assembly of small nuclear reactors.
The visit aimed to review the latest technologies and industrial applications in the field and explore opportunities for co-operation.
Esmat inspected production stages, safety systems and engineering capabilities, and highlighted Rosatom’s expertise in developing advanced reactor technologies.
Discussions during the tour covered prospects for technology transfer, the localisation of related industries in Egypt, and the participation of Egyptian companies in supply chains to strengthen the country’s industrial base.
The minister emphasised Egypt’s interest in diversifying its energy sources and enhancing electricity security, highlighting small nuclear reactors as a promising technology with flexible applications beyond power generation.
He also stressed the importance of comprehensively evaluating these technologies from technical, economic and regulatory perspectives.
