The Ministry of State for Information announced that Minister Diaa Rashwan held a coordination meeting with the heads of Egypt’s three main media bodies to outline the agenda for the country’s first annual media conference, scheduled for December under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The meeting was attended by Khaled Abdel Aziz, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, Abdel Sadeq Al-Shorbagy, Chairman of the National Press Authority, and Ahmed Al-Moslemany, Chairman of the National Media Authority. It follows a series of consultations Rashwan has held over the past three months with more than 125 media leaders, editors, and broadcasters to explore ways of modernizing Egyptian media and strengthening its role in shaping public opinion and regaining regional influence.

The conference agenda will be based on the recommendations of the main committee for media development, which produced 105 proposals to be implemented by 10 government and media institutions over periods ranging from three months to three years.

Key priorities agreed at the meeting include urgent measures to launch genuine reform of Egypt’s media sector, drafting legislation and executive decisions to address financial and economic challenges, and exploring new funding sources. The agenda also covers strategies to ease the heavy debts burdening press and media institutions, improve content quality, ensure rapid and accurate information flow, guarantee freedom of information, and upgrade professional standards and skills.

The discussions highlighted the need to renew human resources with a new generation of digitally skilled journalists and media professionals, expand newspaper distribution, increase television viewership, and strengthen the reach of licensed news websites. Partnerships with state institutions that can provide logistical support for wider distribution of media and cultural products were also emphasized.

This first annual media conference is expected to serve as a platform for open dialogue, reflecting the president’s call to encourage objective debate and diverse viewpoints to enrich discussion and build public awareness.
